Alamance County is home to an estimated 169,000 residents (2019) and counting. Located conveniently between the Triad and Triangle, you’ll find that our county is a popular place among families to call home. In fact, we’re often described as a “bedroom community” due to many people living here because of our low taxes, and working elsewhere. 

The county is comprised of several towns and cities and in the center of it you’ll find a city of around 54,000 people called Burlington; Alamance County’s largest city. Also home to Alamance County is one of the nation’s most prestigious universities: Elon University. The institution is consistently winning impressive recognition including being ranked as the nation’s #1 “Best-run College” by The Princeton Review. 

Alamance County was established in 1849 and is named after a pre-Revolutionary War battle, the Battle of Alamance (May 16, 1771), which took place along the Great Alamance Creek. Be sure to visit Alamance Battleground for a fun experience with your family!
